Satyananda Yoga (Bihar School of Yoga) is an internationally known and distinguished yoga school developed by Swami Satyananda Saraswati. Many of Swami Satyananda’s teachings are based on those of his guru – Swami Sivananda Saraswati.

Swami Satyananda is the ambassador of modern yoga. He extracted wisdom from ancient yogic and tantric texts and from his teachers, to transform it into a practical form for the modern world. He is internationally recognized for his scientific investigations of yoga and meditation in connection to health, education, social behavior, etc. In 1963 he founded the International Yoga Fellowship, in 1964 the Bihar School of Yoga, and later he inspired the first yoga university of the world, Bihar Yoga Bharati de Munger (India).

Satyananda Yoga therefore is a traditional form of yoga with asanas, pranayama, cleansing techniques, relaxation techniques, meditation and mantra yoga,  all of these adapted to the needs of people living in the modern world. It is a style of yoga that can be practiced by anyone, regardless of age, ability or fitness level. It aims at providing useful tools that can easily be integrated into one’s lifestyle. Yoga Nidra, Antar Mouna and Ajapa Japa are some of the famous tools taught in Satyananda Yoga.

Although in Satyananda Yoga we place a lot of importance on the proper execution of the practices, the most important part is how we feel them from inside. Satyananda Yoga seeks to increase our awareness and our intuitive qualities to help us develop our full potential.

One way to experience the benefits of Satyananda Yoga is in the serene settings of a yoga retreat under the loving care of experienced teachers in this authentic yoga tradition.
